hina’s cross-border e-commerce market reached a historic milestone in 2024, with export value surpassing 2 trillion yuan ($278.6 billion) for the first time, according to data from the General Administration of Customs. Annual e-commerce exports grew 16.9 percent year-on-year to 2.15 trillion yuan, while the total cross-border trade volume hit 2.71 trillion yuan, highlighting strong international demand for Chinese products.

Officials credited the boom to rapid sector development, which has helped Chinese sellers enter international markets more easily by breaking traditional trade barriers and simplifying transactions. Consumer goods dominated exports, accounting for 97.5 percent of the total.

The United States was the top market, taking 36.2 percent of cross-border e-commerce exports, followed by Britain and Germany. On the import side, U.S. products also led China’s e-commerce imports, with Japan and Germany following.

Analysts say these figures reflect the resilience and growing global footprint of China’s online trade, driven by ongoing economic recovery and increasing demand for a wide range of Chinese goods.
